It is quite upsetting to think that in our country, education is becoming more and more of a privilege rather than a right. There are tons of families who cannot afford to send their children to proper schools. While the call to be a breadwinner is almost too strong to ignore. But one proud housemaid proved that it is possible to do both with hard work, discipline, and a very understanding employer.
Roselyn Pacia shared her amazing story in hopes that it would become an inspiration to anyone wanting to reach the same dream. Roselyn is a working student who isn’t ashamed to say that she worked as a housemaid to finance her education.
Coming from a hard life in the province, Roselyn experienced hard labor in exchange for small wages. She also had to walk long distances to be able to finish both elementary and high school. Roselyn did have a chance to become a scholar but her family had no way of sustaining her as she studied.
The only thing she could think of was to apply as a housemaid in the city. It was definitely a trial and error process but she landed on the lap of the cousin of her first employer. Roselyn accepted immediately because she knew that her “Ate Heart” was generous enough to allow her to go to school while she worked.
The road to PICC wasn’t easy. In fact, it took everything out of Roselyn to be able to graduate. She faced a lot of hurdles that came with balancing work and education, like losing sleep because of her thesis. But the worst was when both her dad and her sister died and she had no idea what to do. Roselyn wanted to give up but her faith in the Lord pushed her through it.
Now, she finally achieved her dreams to become a college graduate.
Here are some of the netizens’ reactions to her story:
