Earlier this week, veteran broadcaster Jay Sonza was put in the hot seat after his controversial statement against Kris Aquino‘s second son, Bimby Aquino. Many people on social media were shocked after the 62-year-old broadcaster posted a well-meaning yet misguided statement on Facebook on Wednesday, January 24.
Based on what we’ve gathered from his Facebook post, Jay Sonza vented out his frustrations with today’s mainstream media. Instead of focusing on the more significant and timely issues that will benefit the society, most local news outlets nowadays pay attention to people’s interest such as showbiz. This message would have been fine in and of itself, until Jay Sonza dragged Bimby Aquino’s name into the issue.
Dubbing Bimby as “effeminate,” the seasoned newscaster made Bimby’s case as a strong example in reference to the publicity he got after getting sent to the hospital earlier this week. An excerpt of his controversial Facebook post reads:
“Akalain mo, nadulas lang sa swimming pool iyong baklaing (huyangon ug panglawas) si Bimby, anak ni Kris Aquino sa pangatlong kinasama niyang lalaki, headline ng maraming himpilan ng radio at telebisyon! Samantalang iyong pagputok ng Mount Mayon na nagdudulot ng panganib sa halos 50k at iyong patuloy na pagdami ng namamamtay sa Dengvaxia wala o di kaya pahabol na istorya lang.”
This controversial statement gathered mixed reactions online. The comments section is teeming with supportive comments from Jay Sonza’s followers, who also echoed the broadcaster’s sentiments. However, some people expressed their disappointment over Jay’s uncalled for criticism.
Many fans felt that the seasoned newscaster is skating on thin ice after involving a minor in his rants. Although he has a fair point when it comes to the media’s skewed priorities nowadays, many people claimed that Jay Sonza could have gotten his point across without dragging Bimby Aquino into the issue. After all, the 10-year-old son of Kris Aquino does not control how the media will portray his life events.
Here’s what they have to say about this issue:
Meanwhile, what did Kris Aquino have to say about this? In spite of the heated issue, the “Queen of All Media” kept a cool head and decided not to fuel the fire by posting a quote from George Bernard Shaw:
“Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.”
