Aside from being loyal and protective of their owners, dogs are known for their innate ability to hunt, not just for prey. Studies show that canines can detect almost anything that comes their way. They do these by scent trailing, as their sniffing abilities are way more advanced than that of humans. A human has one olfactory receptor, while this four-legged pet has roughly 50—thus explaining why they make great hunting partners.
Case in point: a dog became the key to locating a missing person in San Carlos City, Pangasinan.
Last Tuesday, the remains of a girl who has been missing since December was finally found after the said dog brought home a part of her leg to its owner, Pedro Deola. According to his interview, prior to the findings, the pet has been bringing home several bones for the past week.
This time though, the hound was able to fetch a part of a person’s leg. The dog’s owner said:
“Sinundan ko pagpasok kasi ang baho. Nitong mga nakaraan, may mga buto nang inuwi…Ngayon, nakita ko may daliri na.”
He immediately contacted the authorities to report what he saw. Sure enough, the police have finally located the victim after checking around the vicinity of Pedro’s house. They found the dead body in a vacant lot just near their home.
The girl was identified by her family through her clothing which she was last seen wearing. Further examination from the authorities found two holes in her skull which, according to them, could be the reason for her death.
A more thorough investigation with the authorities is currently under way. So far, no development on the crime has been reported.
